Based on a touching true story, The Express recounts the impressive tale of young university football star Ernie Davis (Rob Brown). A remarkable player on the field, he was the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. And because of his refusal to give in to the laws at the time, which were implicitly racist, Davis also became an icon in the fight for equal civil rights, an up-and-coming movement which would divide America in the beginning of the 1960s. Even though a personal tragedy prevented him from becoming a professional football player, his story changed the face of the American sporting and cultural scenes forever.
