Issac Davis (Woody Allen), an anxious and distraught 42-year-old, has an unfulfilling job and a turbulent personal life. Ex-wife No. 2 (Meryl Streep) is about to publish her autobiography, in which Isaac plays an important part. He’s dating Tracy (Mariel Hemingway), a young girl of 17, and things get even stickier when his best friend introduces him to his mistress Mary (Diane Keaton), with whom Isaac falls in love.
