Trolls still unloading on Jeb Bush over 'Murica gun tweet

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA — The trolling of a patriotic gun tweet from former Florida governor Jeb Bush just won't go away.

As we previously reported, the Republican presidential candidate came under fire after sharing a photo of a gun engraved with his name on Tuesday.

Bush received the weapon as a gift after visiting a gun-manufacturing plant in South Carolina, ahead of the GOP primary there on Saturday.

The post has been retweeted more than 24,000 times and drawn a predictable outcry.

Some Twitter users gave it to Bush with both barrels, pointing out the number of gun deaths in the country. Others, such as NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, simply told Bush to delete his account.

But wait a rootin' tootin' Texas minute. Bush didn't actually post the tweet. That dubious credit goes to a member of his campaign staff, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Bush later told reporters he was unaware of the tweet but said he was honored to have the gun, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Poor Jeb probably felt left out. Until Tuesday, he was the only remaining Republican candidate not to own a gun, according to answers given to a Daily Telegraph survey in September.

So will the tweet have done Bush's bid for the GOP nomination any harm? Well, put it this way: with Jeb lagging so far behind the leading candidates in the polls, it can't have made things any worse.

So, it's gonna take a whole lot more than pandering to the gun lobby to fire a third Bush into the White House.
