Lucky Syrian migrant rescued from sinking boat

EDREMIT, TURKEY — Syrian migrant Pelen Hussein was making the dangerous journey from Syria to Europe, when his boat capsized in the Aegean Sea on Monday.

According to reports, the 20-year-old been desperately clinging to his sinking boat for several hours until the Turkish Coast Guard Air Command saw him.

The footage, filmed with a helmet camera, shows a Coast Guard official lowering himself from a helicopter and swimming to rescue Hussein. He was transported via helicopter to land and treated at a local hospital.

On Monday Feb. 8, 27 migrants drowned when a yacht attempting to reach Turkey from Greece sank off the Aegean coast. Eleven on board were children.
