Do we need a Guru and if yes, then why do we need a Guru? Imagine a child asking at birth: Do I need a teacher? Without a teacher, how will the child learn? We all need to be taught. That is what a Guru does. He teaches us, takes from 'gu' to 'ru', from darkness to light. In life, there are three paths we all walk: that of Achievement, Fulfillment and Enlightenment. While we may walk the first two without a Guru, for the third, the Guru becomes essential. He guides us, step by step on our spiritual journey. He helps us realise who we are, who God is, he directs us towards Moksha, he teaches us the meaning of Upanishads. We may choose to do without a Guru but then, we may not realise the significance, purpose and meaning of life, ourselves or God. How can we ever achieve enlightenment without a Guru?
