Drone footage shows full scale of destruction in Homs

Aerial drone footage captured the large scale devastation of the city of Homs as the Syria conflict approaches its six year. Entire city blocks have been destroyed, with many buildings, walls, and roofs toppled. Government and opposition forces have fought over the city due to having the largest oil refinery in the country. When opposition troops took over parts of the city in 2011, the Syrian army began an offensive in 2012 that resulted in stalemate until the United Nations brokered a ceasefire agreement. By 2015 Homs was again under Syrian government control in the wake of a similar ceasefire resulting in opposition troops pulling out, although Islamic State continued to carry out deadly attacks as recently as December 2015.
