Are Notebook Coolers Effective? ft. Cooler Master Notepal X3

Let's face it, laptops just don't have the same cooling power as desktops, and if you don't believe that, you're a gosh-dang fool. So can sticking an extra cooling pad under your notebook help it stay cool, or even perform better? I don't know, I'm just a description writer. Literally my whole job here. Sigh.
