Multi-car pileups kill 3, injure 7 on Arkansas interstate highway

FOUKE, ARKANSAS — Multi-vehicle accidents have caused three fatalities and the closing of northbound and southbound traffic on part of Interstate-49 in Fouke, Arkansas, KSLA reported.

Foggy conditions might have caused the initial southbound crash when an 18-wheeler semi-truck slowed down and was rear ended by a car at 11:48 p.m. 10 vehicles were involved in the first crash. Three people were reported dead, including a truck driver who state police said might have gotten out of his vehicle to warn other drivers about the crash.

State trooper Jamie Gravier told KSLA that the northbound crashes might have been caused by drivers looking at the wreckage from the southbound crash, where three 18-wheeler semis crashed into each other. One of the trucks leaked glue onto the highway.

At least seven people were injured and taken to the hospital, and police have closed part of the interstate while the wreckage is cleaned up.
