Horst Seehofer, head of the Christian Social Union, has sent conciliatory signals. Seehofer spoke at a conference of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative CDU. He downplayed differences of approach between the two parties but stressed that it's important to reduce refugee numbers soon.
