PYEONGTAEK, SOUTH KOREA — Two people were killed after a US military helicopter crashed in South Korea on Monday.

The helicopter involved was an AH-64 Apache that belongs to 2nd Infantry Division of U.S. troops in South Korea. Two pilots were on board the helicopter when it came down at around 6:22 p.m. in the city of Pyeongtaek.

Local media Yonhap News reported that the chopper may have hit an electricity pylon after take-off. It then went down onto a local road and caught fire after the crash, killing the two pilots onboard.

"I went out after hearing a 'bang' sound twice and saw flames rising into the sky from the side of the road," Yonhap News quoted a witness's report to police.

There were no reports of injuries or damages from the civilian side. Both the US military and local authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
