Countless raids and soldiers deployed to patrol France after ISIS attack

PARIS — At a joint session of parliament on Monday, President Francois Hollande declared that France is at war, and in response to the terror attack in Paris last Friday, has proposed extending the country's state of emergency for another three months. President Hollande also proposed new laws that would strip French-born terrorists of their citizenships, and laws that can deport suspected terrorists more easily.
President Hollande promised to eradicate terrorism without sacrificing his country's freedom.
"We are in a war against terrorism, jihadism, which threatens the whole world." President Hollande said. "Terrorism will not destroy France, because France will destroy it."
On November 15, a dozen French aircraft — Mirage 2000N and Mirage 2000Ds and Rafales — carried out several airstrikes in Raqqa, Syria. Some 20 bombs were dropped during the raid, striking an Islamic State command center and a training camp, according to the French Ministry of Defense.
Over the weekend, authorities arrested seven people in Belgium, five of whom have since been released.
By Monday, French police conducted 150 raids across the country, arresting 23 people and placing 104 on house arrest. Thirty-one weapons, including a rocket launcher and a bulletproof vest were seized. At least 128 more raids were conducted overnight Tuesday.
Ten thousand soldiers will also join the 7,000 already deployed after the January Charlie Hebdo shootings, with 4,000 to 5,000 patrolling the capital.
Police are continuing to search for Salah Abdeslam, the 26-year-old French national believed to have led the team of gunmen to shoot at people at Le Petit Cambodge and Le Carillon bar on Friday night.
On Monday, Islamic State warned in a new video that countries that have taken part in airstrikes against Syria will suffer the same fate as France, and have threatened to attack Washington, D.C.
