New House Speaker Ryan Calls For 'Pause' Of US Refugee Intake

After Friday’s terror attacks in Paris, US speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan, called for a pause in the US program to resettle Syrian refugees. Ryan said, ‘This is a moment where it is better to be safe than sorry.' He added that America’s long-term strategy must be to defeat the Islamic State, not just contain the group. Ryan’s announcement came as many Republican presidential candidates and several governors called for a halt to the resettlement program.
