If elected, Bernie Sanders says he would seek to decriminalize weed

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA — Marijuana is an unpopular plant for most Republicans, but the Democrats and their supporters *cough* uh … aren’t quite on the same page as their more conservative counterparts.
In particular, presidential hopeful Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont came clean on Wednesday regarding his position on pot, saying that he intends to try to have marijuana removed from the Federal government’s schedule of dangerous or harmful drugs.
Marijuana is currently a schedule 1 drug, which puts it in the same classification as heroin. This means marijuana is more strictly regulated than schedule 2 drugs, such as crystal meth, cocaine and oxycodone, all of which the federal government considers to have some medicinal uses.
Sanders’ plan would exempt marijuana from the schedule, like alcohol and tobacco, and free up all 50 states to regulate it as they see fit without federal interference.
Sanders’ Wednesday announcement was received with applause by an assembly of 1,700 very excited college students. More than 300 campuses also tuned in by telecast. Already considered by the pro-legalization community to be the most weed-friendly 2016 presidential hopeful, Sanders has drawn a blunt in the sand that Hillary Clinton can either toke over the line, or continue her “wait and see” approach.
Though Clinton is still ahead of Sanders in almost all the polls, Sanders’ supporters are definitely higher *cough* in like … enthusiasm, man. Feel the Bern!
