Bizarre car wash confrontation ends with fatal shooting by off-duty cop

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA — An unidentified suspect described only as "a man in his late teens or early 20s," died after being shot by an off-duty Virginia police officer after a confrontation at a Chesterfield County car wash on Saturday.
The Better Vision car wash, which shares a lot with a Sunoco gas station at Midlothian Turnpike and Turner Road in Chesterfield County, does not drive customers' cars for them through the manual wash. However, an unidentified man reportedly suddenly entered a police officer's personal car at around 9:40 a.m. Saturday to drive it through the car wash.
The surprised officer drew his weapon and gave chase. The officer approached the vehicle and demanded at gunpoint that the suspect exit the car, but witnesses said the suspect ignored the orders.
Despite identifying himself as a police officer, the suspect refused to get out of the car and the officer told staff to call 911. Before police arrived, however, the suspect allegedly made a sudden move that the officer interpreted as reaching for a weapon.
The officer then fired one shot at the suspect, who later died at Chippenham Hospital.
No information on either the officer or the deceased suspect has yet been released, with the Chesterfield Police Department saying the case was under investigation and that no decisions regarding possible charges have been made.
