Michaël Goldberg on Heartbreak Hotel

Michaël Goldberg, a composer at MIST Technologies in Paris, tells what he would do with “Heartbreak Hotel” using SongCooker:

“Heartbreak Hotel” was written by [Music: Mae Boren Axton, Lyrics: Thomas Durden, and] Elvis Presley in 1956. And at that time, rock-and-roll bands were basically---were essentially made of [a] guitar player, singer, double bass player, and drum player [drummer], and---yes, piano player. So we have five different people playing together. So we can separate those five people and have the piano player on one track, the guitar player on another track, the bass player on the third track, the drum player [drummer], and, of course, the voice on the last track.

And with SongCooker you'll be able to remove one [or more] musical instrument or the singer and put whatever you want. Imagine you put the guitar player off---you turn the guitar player off. Then you take your own guitar, and you play guitar with Elvis himself. I think that's a magical experience, don't you think so? It was impossible before. Now it's possible.

I would turn the piano off---yes, I would turn off the piano. And maybe the guitar player. And try to play something crazy on the piano myself. (laughs) Something totally different, of course.
