Guy Pearce Announces Split from Wife Kate Mestitz After 18 Years of Marriage

Guy Pearce and his wife, Kate Mestitz, have split after nearly two decades of marriage.

The Memento actor revealed that the pair decided to split back in January after 18 years of marriage and nearly 35 years of knowing each other.

Pearce released a statement on Tuesday confirming the split, but emphasized that the two will maintain a close relationship.

"Kate and I will always love and support one another and be the best of friends. No one knows me like Kate does, and we'll forever be appreciative of our mutual respect," he said. "We've both grown enormously through our relationship, but sadly, the time has come to part ways," he said in a statement, per the Sydney Morning Herald.

He continued his admiration for his ex on Twitter, saying that despite their decision to separate, they "couldn't be closer."
He also tweeted out two pictures of Mestitz, including one that read, "The best 20+ years of my life – with this beautiful lady…."
Pearce, 48, first met Mestitz in 1980, while they were both enrolled at Geelong College in Victoria, Australia. They wed in 1997.

The two led a private life together, residing in Australia and staying out of the spotlight. Pearce continued his work as an actor, best known for his roles in Iron Man 3 and The Hurt Locker. He also recently launched a music career, while Mestitz worked as a psychologist.
They did not have any children – a decision the couple consciously made together.

"I don't even need them. There are enough babies in the world. Besides, I don't think I would be good for babies," Pearce told The Guardian in 2007. " I'd be on and off. I think they need more consistent affection than I would be able to give."
