The Volkswagen Golf SV is the replacement for the old Golf Plus, and like that car is halfway between a people carrier and a traditional family hatchback.

So while it only has five seats rather than seven, VW has increased the height of the car and pushed the wheels as far into the corners as possible, all in order to create more space for passengers and luggage.

If there’s one area a car such as the Golf SV should excel, it’s in how much space it offers. To this end you can slide the rear seats forwards to create more room in the boot, or backwards so that those in the rear can stretch out (at which point they’ll notice the SV is significantly roomier than a normal Golf).

The boot is plenty big enough for a baby buggy or several large cases, and a variable height floor comes as standard, allowing you to choose more space or a flat loading area.

You can also fold the rear seats flat with a simple tug of a strap. Unlike some rivals, however, the SV doesn't let you remove the rear seats entirely, nor do you have the option of sliding all three seats individually.
