A preliminary hearing is your chance to cross-examine the state’s witnesses against you. The state has to prove their case by what’s called “slight or marginal evidence”. It’s not the standard of beyond a reasonable doubt. This is an excellent point in which to retain a criminal defense lawyer as it can stop your case from even going to trial.
