Perkasa president and Pasir Mas MP Ibrahim Ali, during a press conference at the parliament lobby, hit out at MCA Youth Chief, Wee Ka Siong over his statement last week urging the government to maintain the Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships.
English daily The Star had quoted Wee as saying, "If the government is only doing away with the PSD scholarships but retains the Mara scholarships, this will not be in line with the 1Malaysia concept that the government is promoting."
Ibrahim Ali took exception to Wee's comment and accused the Deputy Minister of questioning Malay rights.
The firebrand politician also threatened Wee that he would open a branch of his Malay rights group Perkasa in Wee's constituency of Ayer Hitam.
Ibrahim Ali also said that Perkasa is monitoring statements by non-Malay leaders on scholarship and study opportunities for their communities.
Ibrahim said that Malays also were deprived of places in universities, not just non-Malays.
He said that if one were to look at the numbers of Malay-Muslim students receiving the JPA scholarship, it it only 40% from the 57% allocated to Bumiputra candidates.
