'Foreigner' arrested over Bangkok bombing

Police in Thailand say they have detained a foreigner fitting the description of the prime suspect in this month’s deadly Bangkok bombing.

Twenty people were killed and scores more injured in the blast at the crowded Erawan Shrine, one of the country’s top tourist attractions.

Police say the suspect fits the description of a man seen on security cameras leaving a rucksack at the site of the explosion and that possible bomb-making materials were found at the Bangkok apartment where he was detained.

The suspect “looks like the one we are looking for”, said national police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri.

“They also found a lot of materials which can be used to make bombs.”

Thai television has shown pictures of a Turkish passport it says was also found there.
