Samsu.. The unquenched thirst

The Unquenched Thirst ( Theeratha Taagam) portrays a typical Indian family who makes end meet in their daily life. The head of the family Maniam, is an irresponsible father who neglects his role as the caretaker and gets himself involved in cheap alcohol, Samsu. To support the family, Rajeswary works in an Chinese Restaurant washing dishes, for her to get mere R20 per day. Unfortunately Rajeswary predicament of Asthma, agonises her health. 17 year old daughter, Vimala is naive', innocent and young. She easily believes peoples word and this is where she is taken advantage by her so called boy friend who promised to marry her. Eventually, Vimala falls into a traumatic stage. The youngest son, Saravanan, scavenges garbage to help the family, but all his earning is taken away by his dad. Saravanan aim to be a star and always fantasises being in lime light. The end of this play is about a woman who seeks justice for herself and her children. What will she do for them not to endeavour anymore of the agony and misery being abused, being illiterate, ailing health and poverty?? What will Rajeswary do???
