The Weirdest Cricket Shot ever by Brad Haddin against Shoaib Akhtar

Arguably the weirdest shot ever played by a batsman in cricke t came in the T20 international between Australia A and Pakistan in 2005. It was a free hit delivery and Brad Haddin took guard. Little did the people in the stadium expect what emanated from the willow of Brad Haddin.

The Rawilpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar bowled the free hit delivery, having been penalized for overstepping. Haddin went behind the stumps in anticipation of a yorker and heaved it through to the mid wicket for a couple of runs. All the fielders were in a state of gaze at what happened. It seems that Haddin who used to stand behind the stumps as a wicket keeper got acclimatized to the habit and had dragged it along with him as a batsman as well and went behind the stumps in the most unexpected fashion.

Haddin claimed that he had thought of the tactic, which was eventually unsuccessful, after his team-mates had failed to take advantage of a number of free hits in the ING Cup competition. “I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of weeks,” Haddin told ‘The Australian’.
“I thought if I got behind the stumps and the ball hit the stumps, it could deflect for four. Also it would give me more time to free my arms up and hit the ball. It was something different. Maybe I over-theorised a little bit, but we were all out there to have some fun.” Haddin added.
