Mexico: Farm Workers Being Squeezed Out by Budget Cuts
  • 9 years ago
Farmworkers from across Mexico marched in the capital city to denounce cuts in agricultural spending that they say will damage small-scale producers rather than big agro-industry. These farmers from all over the country say they are being squeezed out by privatization policies and budget cuts. They say they need seeds, credit, cheap fertilizers and opportunities to compete. Farm workers say the 2016 federal budget cuts much needed social programs for small producers, while credit programs for large-scale producers in the agro-industry go untouched.
