Head of failed bitcoin company arrested in Japan

It was once the world’s biggest exchange company for the virtual Bitcoin currency. Now Mount Gox is no more and its head has been arrested in Tokyo.

Mark Karpeles, 30, is accused of accessing the company’s computer system in 2013 and inflating a cash account by more than 900-thousand euros.

He denies any wrongdoing, according to Japanese media reports.

Mount Gox went offline early last year. Then, Karpeles said that tens of thousands of bitcoins – worth several hundred million euros – were unaccounted for. He suggested they had been stolen.
