The EU parliament is certainly a place for free debate, but a recent statement by an MEP has raised doubts over how far lawmakers can go in their comments.

Legislator Janusz Korwin-Mikke used a Nazi Germany salute to protest against a German-led motion to introduce travel tickets valid all over the EU.

Poland's Foreign Minister has since issued an apology, saying he was ashamed by the incident.
