Greeks hope for a better future as eurozone leaders argue over bailout terms

As the talking continued in Brussels people in Athens were watching closely knowing the emergency summit would shape their future.

Our reporter went to talk to people in the wealthy Athens suburb of Chalandri where many voted in the recent referendum in favour of a deal with the country’s creditors:

“We are watching the developments and we worry about the future. I believe that we have to stay in the euro zone because we want to have a better future. I think that a Grexit would be a disaster for us,” said one man.

“Over the past two weeks the situation has worsened a lot I believe that Greeks cannot think of their country outside euro zone and Europe. We just hope for the best, “ said one woman.

“We don’t have a life anymore. I don’t have money to pay my rent and the electricity bill. I could never imagine that I would live an experience like this but I still hope that something will happen;” complained another.

For many Greeks who voted to reject more austerity in the re
