Calling ratification of the historic Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh as "meeting of hearts", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said if such a pact was inked some other parts of the globe, then it would have been worthy of a Nobel prize. Talking about ratification of the pact signed 41 years ago to settle the vexed boundary issue, Modi cited a media report that compared it to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Earlier, a joint statement issued by both the countries said Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina have given directives to the concerned officials on both sides for "expeditious implementation of the 1974 Land Boundary Agreement on the ground". Under the LBA deal, 111 border enclaves will be transferred to Bangladesh in exchange for 51 that will become part of India.

Modi had extensive talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina following which the pacts were signed which including an agreement on coastal shipping, an MoU on setting up of Indian Economic Zones and allowing Life Insurance Corporation to operate in the country. In a major initiative to boost connectivity and enhance people-to-people contact, two bus services -- Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala and Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati - were also flagged off jointly by Modi, Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. With an aim to boost bilateral trade, Bangladesh offered to establish Special Economic Zones for Indian companies besides allowing Life Insurance Corporation to start operation in the country. As per the MoU on the economic zone, Bangladesh will offer SEZs to Indian companies in Mongla and Bheramara.
