Suspect in Cleveland kidnappings charged, new details emerge
  • 9 years ago
Cleveland prosecutors on Wednesday charged Ariel Castro with the rape and kidnapping of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, revealing details of the captives' lives in the process.

According to a police report, the victims were kept in separate rooms, but were aware of each other.

Ropes and chains were among the more than 200 pieces of evidence police seized from Castro's home, but investigators have yet to confirm how they were used.

The women reportedly never left the house, save two times they were briefly taken in disguise by Castro to the adjacent garage.

According to a report, citing one of the victims, Castro served each woman a cake annually to celebrate their "abduction day".

The suspect's 31-year old son, Anthony, described seeing padlocks on the doors throughout his father's home.

The charges against 52-year old Castro are all first degree felonies. He will be arraigned in court Thursday morning.
