A man died after setting himself on fire and jumping from the balcony of the Ercolano mayor's office in Italy on Monday. According to Italian reports, Antonio Formicola, 47, entered the mayor's office at around 10am with a rope, a bottle of gasoline and a knife in protest against the difficulty of obtaining a parking spot in front of his flower shop.
He first threatened the mayor before pouring gasoline on himself and tying himself to the balcony railings. Police officers tried to stop him from committing suicide, but he lit the fuel and jumped.

The rope broke and Formicola fell to the ground, still on fire. According to reports, a 36-year-old passerby tried to help, but a fire extinguisher thrown by someone from the first floor window hit him on the head, injuring him severely. He is currently at the hospital with head injury. The deep cut was sewn up with 30 stitches. A policeman also suffered an eye injury after trying to help extinguish the fire. According to reports, the man had been waiting to obtain a parking spot near his shop for two years.
