A new video shows the moment a tornado ripped through an Iowa town and lifted the roof off a school while roughly 100 people sat inside.

The tornado touched down on Sunday, but Southern Calhoun High School in Lake City was packed with people for an awards ceremony.

The girl's basketball coach told Des Moines Register the school received warning in the nick of time.

"The lights went off, and everyone's ears kind of popped," Dave Birks said, according to Des Moines Register. He said everyone was able to move into the school's basement before the tornado hit.

"They say a tornado sounds like a freight train, and that lasted only 5 or 10 seconds," Birks said. "Everyone came upstairs, and it was a mess.

In a Basehunter video obtained by the Associated Press, a large metal roof can be seen flying through the air, along with debris.
