Dolphin feeds girl dinner! Kayaking with dolphins in UK

The coast of England is perhaps not the most renowned watersports destination on Earth. But that relative obscurity might be the reason why marine mammals there haven't become embittered toward their human neighbors. Case in point: one 14-year-old British girl and self described dolphin fan Lucy Watkins, who went ocean kayaking with her grandparents on July 25, when she met a locally famous dolphin named Dave.

Excited to be meeting a dolphin in the wild for the first time, Lucy splashed water and paddled about while Dave the dolphin put on a show of jumps and dives. Finding Lucy's performance to be satisfactory, Dave rewarded her with a 10-pound codfish. Lucy wasn't quite sure what Dave's intentions were at first, but after he nosed the fish over to her she decided to accept her reward. Fearing Lucy still didn't understand what to do with the fish, Dave caught another one and ate it while she watched, apparently attempting to teach the land mammal by example.

Although enjoying the interaction with another species, Dave eventually had to say goodbye to the kayakers as the sun was going down and they were unable to start their cooking fires on the fiberglass kayaks. The humans returned home and Dave went about his business, no doubt waiting for the day when another troop of land apes swims out to sea without provisions. Then Dave will be there.
