Soldier shot by gunman across the border while on patrol duty

A soldier was seriously injured after he was shot while on duty in Malaysia on August 10.

According to local media, the 26-year-old Azamruddin Azizan was on patrol duty at the Malaysia-Thailand border near Bukit Kayu Hitam with another soldier before he was shot from the neighbouring country. It was reported that the two soldiers noticed a part of the fencing had been damaged. After Azizan finished repairing the fencing, he was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant behind the bushes. He sustained three gunshot wounds to the back, one to the left thigh and two to the right thigh. Azizan is reported to be in stable condition.
