Washington Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis said predators harassed him with microwaves

Washington Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis called police in August because he believed he was being stalked by people intent on destroying him with microwave vibrations.

Details of Alexis' past brushes with the law are coming to light in his death.

Alexis called police to a Newport hotel he was staying at to complain that a trio of harassers were trying to keep him awake by using microwave machines to create vibrations through his ceiling, wall and floor.

Alexis told police he could hear the three people calling to him through the walls.

He believed the gang had been dispatched by an angry airline passenger he had got into an altercation with a flight that day.

The New York Times reported that police filed a report that was also sent to the Defense Department, but it is unclear whether anyone higher in the chain of command ever saw the report.

Alexis had another brush with the law earlier in the year when, after getting into a fight, he became so angry he "blacked out" and shot out the car tires of his nemisis' vehicle.

Other reports note Alexis sought medical treatment for insomnia twice in the month before the shooting in which he killed 12 people. He had complained to Defense Department therapists that he could not sleep more than a few hours a night.

He was prescribed an antidepressant; however, it appears he did not take the drug.
