At least six people were killed and more than 100 were wounded when a tourist ferry capsized in Thailand on Sunday evening (November 3), according to Reuters. Those who were killed included one Chinese man, one Russian woman and two Russian men, the Bangkok Post reported.

Roughly 200 Thai and foreign tourists were aboard the double-decker ferry with the accident took place. According to police, the 12-metre-long vessel was operating over capacity, as it was only licensed to carry up to 150 people. According to Col. Suwan Cheawnavinthavat, an engine problem occurred soon after the boat departed, causing people to rush to the second floor. The uneven weight distribution then caused the ferry to flip on its side and eventually sink.

The ferry was traveling from Lan island, which is a popular tourist destination, to a port near Pattaya city. The journey usually takes about 30 minutes.

Marines from Thailand's Sattahip Naval Base were deployed to search for the ferry and missing passengers, but local media report that at least 20 people are still missing.
