Foreign-born sumo wrestlers are growing in popularity in Japan, with some performing outstandingly well. Kazakhstan-born wrestler Kazafuzan Taiga however, has brought the foreign devils into disrepute after being caught on 3rd January vandalising a Japanese bistro's kadomatsu. A kadomatsu is a traditional Japanese New Year decoration placed outside homes to welcome ancestral spirits.

The sumo and a male friend were getting in some serious drinking at a bar in Tokyo's Roppongi district late on 2nd January. The pair became so drunk the venue's owner forced to kick them to the kerb early next morning. When Taiga was refused re-entry, he flew into a rage and started kicking down a Kadomatsu in front of the bistro's door. An employee called police and officers rushed to arrest him on suspicion of criminal damage. Taiga denied all charges during questioning. He might like to avoid excessive alcohol intake in the future.
