Police released security footage of a man and women attempting to steal cigarettes from the Speedway on Maple Road in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The clerk on duty tackled the man, rendering him unconscious.

Frederick Coble and his girlfriend, Christina Maria Borcia, went to the convenience store around 12:30 a.m. May 1. They later told police that they had been drinking and smoking crack prior to the robbery.

The clerk was in the cooler when the couple first walked into the store so they began plundering the cancer stick collection. After the clerk busted them in the act, they pretended like they were going to pay for the cigarettes.

When the clerk opened the register, Coble attacked him with a pair of pliers. The 22-year-old clerk deflected the plier attack and tackled the man to the ground, knocking Coble out cold, before he fled and called police.

Borcia was unable to wake up her boyfriend, but grabbed some cash from the register before running out of the store. She dropped $142 in the rear of the store and Borcea admitted to spending the other $80 missing from the till on crack cocaine and heroin, according to the police report.

A few days later, police spotted Coble riding a bicycle and recognized him from the security video. He asked officers if he could return the bike to his girlfriend before he was arrested. Police accompanied Coble to the home of Borcea where they arrested her as well.

Both suspects are charged with armed robbery and remain in jail on $250,000 bonds.
