Lowell fire: Four adults, three children killed in Massachusetts apartment fire

Four adults and three children were killed in an early morning apartment fire in Lowell, Massachusetts on Thursday, according to a report by the Boston Globe.

At around 4:00 a.m. 911 calls began pouring in about a fire at 81 Branch Street. The building, which included a liquor store on the main floor and two floors of apartments, was engulfed in flames.

In addition to those killed, ten people were injured including one firefighter.

More than 50 people were left homeless.

Authorities are also investigating reports that the smoke alarms were not operating at the time of the fire.
