According Iran state TV, all 48 people were killed when a plane went down in a residential area in the capital city of Tehran Sunday morning.

A twin engined turboprop airliner belonging to Sepahan Airlines took off from Mehrabad Airport around 9:10am local time heading for the city of Tebas, due east of Tehran. Almost immediately the plane experienced some sort of malfunction and crashed into a street in a residential area next to the airport.

Current reports indicate all on board perished, including five children. It is currently not known what caused the crash, but it is widely understood that hard-to-find aircraft parts are commonly substituted with unofficial, locally made spare parts in Iran. The airplane is a Iran built IN-140 which is based on the Antonov-140, a Russian aircraft
