Racist Jeffrey Daniels shoots own stepfather for having black grandkids in Mississippi

With racial tension in the U.S. at a high boil, stories of race-motivated violence continue to pour in.
In Mississippi a man has been charged with aggravated assault and released on $20,000 bond after he beat and shot his own step father. Jeffrey Daniels was upset that his stepsister’s three mixed-race children were going to spend the night at the house of his stepfather, Craig Wilson.
About 8 p.m. Friday, Daniels and his son rushed Wilson’s house, shouting racist abuse. Craig Wilson confronted Daniels, hoping to defend his grandchildren, but Daniels and his son began savagely beating Wilson with a stick.
They chased Wilson around to the back of his own house and beat him with brass knuckles. Then Daniels used Wilson’s own gun to shoot him in the stomach. Wilson remains in critical condition.
Although Daniels has been charged with aggravated assault, because he and Wilson are both white, he cannot be charged with a hate crime under Mississippi law, even though two weeks earlier the family found a burning cross on their land. The family suspects it was put there by Daniels, who had already made his racist views known to them.
Daniels has multiple priors for assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
