Mother saves daughter: Colleen Segbers sacrificed herself to save daughter from oncoming vehicle

A tragic accident occurred at the Walgreens on Holly Hills and Gravois in St. Louis Monday evening. Colleen Segbers was struck and killed by an SUV but managed to save her 10-year-old daughter’s life.
The pair were entering the store around 5:30 p.m. A 58-year-old woman parked in the handicapped spot was fiddling with her radio when she realized her vehicle was still in drive. The driver went to put the SUV into park but instead of pushing the brake, she accidently hit the gas.
Segbers had about one second to react. She pushed her daughter out of the way but was unable to avoid the SUV herself. The 33-year-old mom was pinned between the building and the vehicle. Colleen Segbers died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. Segbers daughter Gwen avoided injury thanks to her mom’s quick actions.
