NYC subway fight: Swedish cops on vacation break up homeless brawl on uptown 6 train

New Yorkers hailed a group of Swedish tourists as heroes on Sunday, after the four men broke up a fight on a subway train.

Gothamist identified the men as Samuel Kvarzell, Eric Jansberger, Marcus Asberg and Erik Naslund, who are on the police force in Sweden.

The group told the New York Post they had been on vacation in New York for one day when the fight broke out.

“We’re no heroes, just tourists,” Asberg told the New York Post.

The men were reportedly on their way to see a Broadway performance of Les Miserables, when the train’s conductor came on over the intercom. She asked if there were any police officers on board.

“We thought maybe someone needed help,” said Kvarzell, who works for the Stockholm Police Department.

When the men found the right train, they saw two men fighting on the floor. The New York Post reported both men were homeless.

“One of the guys was on top of the other guy so we separated them,” Asberg said.

A Youtuber captured the aftermath of the brawl, in which two of the officers hold down one man involved in the fight. In the video, he yells several times while the men hold down his arms. The other two Swedish men console the victim, who sits quietly on the subway floor. At the end of the video, a transit security official evacuates the train but leaves the four men to handle the fighters.

Asberg told the New York Post he and his friends needed to grab a beer before heading to the broadway show.
