Sea lion pup rescue: 'Rubbish' saved after wandering the streets of San Francisco - TomoNews

A sea lion pup that had been wandering the streets of San Francisco was rescued by marine specialists this Thursday. Nicknamed 'Rubbish', the young male sea lion was originally released back into the wild earlier this year, but was later found hiding under a car.

Despite being a little scared, rescuers managed to capture the sea lion and get it to safety. Vets at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California are currently treating Rubbish for pneumonia and malnutrition.

Officials from the center said that the sea lion is just one of thousands of pups that became stranded near the California coast this year after warmer ocean waters affected their food resources.
