Texas meteor sighting described as ‘fireball’ by NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office

A brilliant fireball streaking through the Texas night sky on Saturday prompted numerous to call news outlets across the state from people reporting they’d sighted a meteor.
Scientists are still investigating, but it appears they were right.
Two videos of the event, one from a concertgoer and another captured on police dash cam, show what witnesses described as a blue-green ball with an orange tail.
"This was definitely what we call a fireball, which by definition is a meteor brighter than the planet Venus,” head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, Dr. Bill Cooke, told media.
"This event was so bright that it was picked up on a NASA meteor camera in the mountains of New Mexico over 500 miles away, which makes it extremely unusual,” head of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office, Dr. Cooke added.
"This one was around 8:40, so there were a lot of people outside and those events get a lot of notice," he said. "There would have been far fewer reports if it happens around 3 a.m."
