Man shoots puppy: Texas man claims self-defense after killing 2-year-old pit bull in Texas dog park

A Texas man shot a pit bull three times at a public dog park on Sunday, claiming the animal acted aggressively toward his own canine.
The shooting happened on the Bay Area Dog Park around 10:30 a.m., according to Harris County authorities.
The unidentified man told police the deceased pit bull had been trying to attack his dog and he was afraid it would turn on him.
Witnesses say the man first kicked two-year-old Diesel, a black and white Staffordshire bull terrier when he thought the dog was being too rough with own his pet.
The man next pulled out his concealed handgun and shot Diesel three times, in his back and both front legs.
"I just can't believe somebody would do that when the dog wasn't even being aggressive,” witness Melanie Merritt told KHOU.
When police arrived, they, taking the dog killer’s “self-defense” claim at face value, opted not to detain the man.
Diesel's owner rushed him to VCA Animal Emergency Hospital where the puppy later succummbed to his injuries.
Since the incident, Diesel’s owners have hired an attorney to seek justice for their deceased family member.
