A Palestinian man was shot dead after he wounded two Israeli soldiers in a stabbing attack in the West Bank on Wednesday morning, the Israeli military said.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning on a main road near the Jewish settlement of Maale Levona, near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

One of the soldiers suffered light injuries. The second was airlifted to a hospital in Jerusalem in serious condition after being stabbed in the neck.

Palestinian medics told AFP that the attacker was 32-year-old Mohammed Jasser Karakra, a resident of Sinjil village.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz said the soldiers had been sent to the area to provide extra security during the Passover holiday. It said the soldiers served in the Tavor Battalion of the Home Front Command.
