A car bomb has exploded on Thailand's tourist island of Samui on Friday, wounding seven people.

The car packed with explosives was parked in the car park of the Central Festival mall. It went off at around 11:30 p.m., the Bangkok Post reported.

"Six Thais and a 12-year-old girl were treated for minor injuries," Poonsak Sophonsasmorong of Koh Samui's disaster prevention office told Bangkok Post.

The car was stolen from Yala province, one of the three southernmost Muslim-majority provinces where insurgency has killed more than 6,300 people, according to Bangkok Post. However, Thai police did not specify whether the blast was linked to the insurgency.
