We thought for sure that director Daniel Espinoza would sign on for a major TV project or a big-budget action movie after his U.S. breakthrough, Safe House (which is three years old already, yow). We'll follow Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman anywhere, and we were mostly into Hardy and Noomi Rapace's dynamic in The Drop. But child murders? Eesh. We're still with you all, albeit hesitantly. Nice to see Espinoza reunited with Joel Kinnaman, who did his best to make Run All Night worthwhile. If Child 44 doesn't connect, it won't be because its cast was unappealing.
