A regular tale, the story is set on the backdrop of a village and in it there is Murugesan (Bharath) who is happy go lucky guy and is basically a vagabond. His parents (Rajesh and Yuvashree) make their livelihood by selling flowers near the temple while Murugesan hangs around with his uncle Thapal Thangavelu (Vadivelu). However, things change for him when he chances upon Parijatham (Poonam) who hails from a traditional Brahmin Iyengar family and it is love at first sight. From then on, he starts wooing her and as is the norm, Parijatham initially refuses but later on, she falls in love with him. Meanwhile, Parijatham's elder sister Gayathri (Simran) is married to a Brahmin man (Prem) and also has a baby but as fate would have it, they discover that she is suffering from cancer. Elders take a decision and as soon as Gayathri dies, they decide to marry Parijatham to her brother in law. She accepts the situation due to the infant and parts ways with Murugesan. Meanwhile, Periyavar (Sampath) the local landlord casts his lustful eye on Parijatham and wants to have her at any cost. Unexpectedly, Parijatham's husband gets killed by Prem's men and now Murugesan comes in, asking for her hand at marriage and willing to take the responsibility of the kid too. What happens after that? Does Parijatham agree? What happens to Periyavar? All this forms the rest of the story.
