Roaches Are Turned Into ‘Hybrid Robotic Systems’

Researchers from Texas A&M have turned roaches into “hybrid robotic systems” by implanting electrodes in their nervous systems and controlling their movements with the help of a tiny high-tech backpack.

Some insects are being transformed into high-tech devices.

As a team of researchers at Texas A&M University in College Station described in their paper, “cockroaches were engineered into a remotely controlled hybrid robotic system.”  

While previous efforts have involved controlling the insect through antennae stimulation, this experiment implants electrodes directly into the nervous system.
