A grandma from the suburbs of Melbourne has become an Internet star after her son posted videos on Facebook of her reacting to different situations.
"Nonna Paola", who was born in Italy and still stumbles a little with English, is shown struggling to get her head around her new iPhone in the most recent video shared. In a previous video she yells at her grandson "No way! No way! No way!" when he tells her he plans to get a neck and sleeve tattoo. "I'll kill you!" Nonna screams.
Her son 44-year-old Greg Lachimia enjoys mocking his 78-year-old mother, Nonna Paola, and then filming her reaction. But when he recently uploaded a video of Nonna attempting to use the iPhone personal assistant, Siri, Nonna's charm spread around the world.
Her thick Italian accent stumps Siri, when she tries to ask the time in Italy. "Ermm.. excuse me," Nonna says to her new phone, "What's the time in Italy? Can you tell me the time please?" Siri is obviously not built for confused grandmothers with good manners and goes into meltdown, spurting out random information at a super pace.
The frustrated Nonna keeps on trying, with the brutal encouragement of Greg, "Hello, please tell me the time to Italy. Thank you," she says in broken English. "I see a handful of deli restaurants in your area," Siri responds.
Multiple attempts later, Nonna finally stops calling Siri, Sira and asks: "Siri, tell me what's the time in Italy... please." It seems Nonna has finally mastered her question. Siri responds: "Hmmm let me think. Okay I've found this on the web for: 'sira sira siri tell me the time in in va tele'."
It appears Nonna will never know the time in Italy.
